About STATS America

STATS America is a service of the Indiana Business Research Center at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. We obtain thousands of data items from hundreds of data sets from dozens of federal and state sources, along with some commercial or private source data.  While STATS America adds value to these data through easy access and functionality, we acknowledge the direct agency source of the data on every table, profile or map.

And speaking of adding value, you will see it in the form of calculations, graphs, comparisons of time or geography, time series and maps.  To ensure total accuracy, all data are verified first by analyzing the source data (we frequently report back to the source agencies about problems spotted with their data) and the resulting calculations we generate. These data are updated as they are released and arrive from the sources and we maintain an online release calendar so our users can plan ahead for their own work.

About the Profiles

States in Profile

Extensive profiles are available for all 50 states featuring hundreds of economic and demographic indicators. The data come from a variety of federal agencies and other sources, and most are updated annually. The Linked Ranks feature lets users easily see which states are similar or dissimilar to a given state on any variable.

USA Counties in Profile

Multipage, multi-source profiles of all 3,141 counties in the USA, with ranks. These one-of-a-kind profiles provide a select compilation of demographic and economic indicators. They are updated periodically through the year, so check back often for the most current information. The Linked Ranks feature allows users to easily locate counties that are similar or dissimilar. The City-to-County Finder allows you to type in the name of a city or town and locate its county.

USA Counties and Metros Side-by-Side

The USA Counties and Metros Side-by-Side feature provides a useful way to compare any U.S. county or metro to another county, metro, micro, state or the nation.
